Born in the Unknown dominated badlands, Beck grew up under a searing sun and around roaring tempers. His tribe often warred with their neighbors, raiding each other's camps and territory for food and slaves. Occasionally this raiding would spill over into neighboring lands, inhabited by humans and other more civilized races. While the loot from settled people was almost always better, so too were their defenses. So life continued in the badlands as it had for many centuries, and Beck thrived in his childhood as the son of one of his tribe's warriors. Life was never easy, and while most races wouldn't consider it good either, Beck couldn't imagine living any other way.
After a raid gone wrong, Beck's tribe was almost completely destroyed by a lich who had begun trying to seize power in the badlands by raising the dead of the local tribes. Beck was grievously injured in the fighting, but he was rescued just before his death by a detachment of Iomedaen knights, sent to battle against the lich. For the first time in his life, Beck saw great warriors showing mercy; even though he was an orc, and these knights were the enemies of his tribe, they did not kill him. Further, they took the young and injured Beck to their castle to nurse him back to health. When he was strong enough to speak, he begged the knights to teach him to be like them. While he progressed in his training, he was still a subject of much debate within the order, as there were many who doubted his ability to truly turn himself from his past ways. It was in these frustrations that he discovered the worship of Ragathiel, The General of Vengeance. Beck easily related to Ragathiel's own struggles to separate himself from the sins of his ancestry, and his edicts of leading the charge in battle and avenging the wrong greatly appealed to him. With little holding him in the Old World, beck set out from the castle to travel to First Landing, where he is determined to make this New World a better place.
