Loose threads: Exploring the newly-opened Dwarven city, finding the engineer's body, origin of the acid

Participants: Wolfram Anvilborne, Sharp-Eye, Alyssa, Robert Cross, Tuesday

Locations: Greyspine Mountains, Dwarven Outpost (Dwarven City of Nowhere / the Oubliette), Gearhome

Short summary:

The group was able to find a way inside the Fortress by using tunnels created by some kind of acid to pierce through the Dwarven walls. Once inside, they used the head of the engineer, a sentient being responsible to maintain the structures inside the city, to get to the door and its operating mechanism. Once the door opened, the group fought animated pipes and Mephits to secure the main doorway to the city.

Full report:

Wolfram Anvilborne, Sharp-Eye, Alyssa,Robert Cross and Tuesday took this opportunity to help out the Dr. Gustavo Guel in the hope to manage to open the door to the Dwarven Outpost turned into a Unknown prison.

The mission began after retrieving the head of the engineer, an entity that seems to speak an ancient Elf dialect and who is responsible for all of the repair at the Oubliette (the name of the prison it seems). The engineer had been reconfigured by a previous party to recognize the members of the Guild as administrator. This status enables us to request repairs and direction from the engineer which as the source of success to our mission.

With the engineer's head in tow, we began our journey to the ancient Dwarven city. With most of the group ill-equiped for the winter, we chose to travel through a spiders-infested woods instead of using the more common road traveling through the mountains. There, we met a strange spider merchant wearing the mask of a fox, who was interested in trading light, darkness, our color or our soul in exchange of truly magnificent items of great power. Being short in gold, and unwilling to trade, we went our way.

Once we arrived at the door of the Fortress, we were able to meet with Dr. Gustavo Guel, that was using the pipes from a tunnel the previous group had used to keep himself warm. Being ill-equiped to deal with a maze full of burning steaming pipes, we tried to find another access into the Fortress.

Sharp-Eye was able to show for the first time why that was his name and noticed a small passage into the mountain. After a small recon mission by Tuesday and a fight with acid creatures that were identified as acid Amoeba Swarms by Robert Cross, our group discovered multiple passages filled with small acid pools and a passage to a Dwarven wall. By ruining the doctor's cookware, we were able to breach the wall by using the acid thanks to Wolfram Anvilborne's guidance.

Now able to be on the inside of the Fortress, we asked the engineer to guide us to the main door through the maze of tunnels. Once we arrived at the main door, using the engineer's basic knowledge of how the door mechanism is supposed to be maintained, the group managed to open the door. What we did not expect was the sudden pipes animating to attack us accompanied by steam Mephits. Alyssa went to the front to protect everyone while the rest of the group took down methodically the creatures one at a time.

With the door open and the creatures defeated, we were able to open the way to Dr. Guel's next discoveries. He is now in need of a group willing to explore the city's maze of tunnels to map it and discover new treasures.
