Loose ends: Design Chambers, Mysterious Dwarven Constructs

Participants: Wolfram Anvilborne, Sharp-EyeRobert CrossTuesday

Locations: Greyspine Mountains, Dwarven Outpost

Full report

The party, just back from opening the Dwarven ruins, decided to return and investigate them.

Upon their arrival, they started searching the ruins and found big steel doors leading to the Design Chambers

The door was sealed for a long time, and an odor of cherry filled the hallway. The Design Chambers were split into four different rooms.

  • Assembly;
  • Blueprinting;
  • Live Demonstrations;
  • Discarded - the door being locked by 3 different keys.

After some discussion on how to proceed, they decided to explore the Blueprinting room.

The Blueprinting room consisted of many small different workstations with lots of paper about designing Constructs. All of the texts here were Dwarven and the Constructs did not seem to be built for combat. Wolfram Anvilborne was able to understand the different papers. It seems like they were working on a design issue with those Constructs, that had violent behavior because of the type of cortex that was used in their construction. We learned the existence of a control module that doesn't entirely work, but should be enough to control some of the violent behavior.

After learning that information, we decided to interrupt our search of the Blueprinting room to go retrieve the control module that was in the backstage of the Live Demonstration room.

The room was quite elegant, a large theater with seating for a few hundred people. A Construct appeared on the stage and asked us to take our seat for the demonstrations. It seems like the machines have been waiting for 2000 years.

Five Constructs appeared once we were seated, separated into two groups: four Constructs with red eyes, and one with green eyes. They danced for a while, then the red-eyed group asked for Tuesday's participation. The play then continued with the green-eyed Construct drawing a gun and shooting Tuesday. At that point a fight occurred, during that fight Sharp-Eye was knocked unconscious, and the rest of the group was able to destroy the five ancient Constructs.

Once the fight was over, the Construct that had requested us to take a seat and look at the demonstration met us again. In the backstage, we found a key that seemed to be for the Discarded room door, a strange megaphone-looking device with plenty of buttons on it, and a journal.

Because of the injuries we suffered, we decided to stop our exploration of the Design Chambers at that point and to recall back to First Landing.
