Full Report
The party made their way west from First Landing towards The Shorepines where the previous report had indicated unusual tears in reality connected to the Maelstrom. Travel the first day was uneventful, but when the party broke camp for the night, Elys spotted a Chaos Beast in front of a portal. The party snuck up on the beast, and were able to dispatch it fairly quickly. While Elys attempted to patch up Lotus Asura's wounds, Anya Nikolaev inspected the portal. She incorrectly deduced it was a portal to the negative energy plane, and attempted to close it with some positive energy by way of a healing potion. This did not close the portal, but instead turned her hair a bright shade of pink. After deciding the group would need to push further into The Shorepines to determine how to close the portals, the group broke camp for the night.
The following day, the group decided to make there way towards an abandoned campsite within the The Shorepines, hoping to find further clues. When the party finally arrived, they were greeted by the grisly sight of four bloodstained tents and a ruined workbench. Elys began to investigate the camp site with Detect Magic, indicating that two of the tents were giving off magic. The first tent seemed to contain a slowly growing mass of black goo, that seemed capable of turning other objects it came into contact with into goo as well. Unsure how to proceed, Elys tried attacking the goo with Acid Splash, but this only left her with hallucinations of turning into goo themselves, with the goo appearing unaffected to the rest of the party. In the meantime, Azzadar Du Lyon discovered a group of Voidworms around the workbench, which Anya Nikolaev identified from the previous report, and relayed that the creatures were not hostile if left unprovoked. Anya Nikolaev comforted Elys before going to investigate the second tent. Inside she found a letter addressed to her, which she decided to read despite its suspicious nature. The letter began to carve its contents into Anya Nikolaev's flesh, which when read revealed the final words of the author. The author had found a portal just west of the camp, containing an even larger Chaos Beast then those previously encountered. His theory is that the destruction of the beast would also close the portal, and the many others dotting The Shorepines. After taking a bit to rest, the party moved to find the greater chaos beast.
At the top of a particular hill, the party found two floating Eyes which glowed with light, and appeared to have fallen out of a newly formed portal. Within the portal was a large ball-shaped creature covered in eyes, with two large claws and a singular tentacle. The Eyes quickly flew up to dazzle the party, expending the light within them, before opening up to reveal monstrous mouths. Big Ugly used its tentacles to draw party members towards it before tearing at them with its claws. In a battle that saw many members of the party quite battered, the eye-like monstrosities were defeated. With the death of Big Ugly, the portal it had torn open began to close, releasing enough energy to form a massive storm. Not wanting to be caught in the storm, the party decided to recall back to First Landing.
