Loose Threads: Who was this elf and how did he become this creature?

Short Summary: We hunted down and killed a beast, a Manananggal, who killed and drained the blood of many within the Millennium Forest.
Full Summary:
The party sets out to Millennium Forest, where an unknown monster is killing travelers and inhabitants alike, leaving behind only corpses drained of blood. It didn't take long for us to meet a small helpful dragon by the name of Vymacith. While Vymacith revealed to us where the mystery monster was and offered to take us, we elected to gather more information first. We had some initial success investigating the corpses of its victims, discovering many of the abilities it used to weaken and kill its prey.
However, when Deanne and Nasha elected to follow the creature at night in hopes of learning more, they were quickly discovered and had to flee to safety with the creature in chase. Worse still, Roy and Onyx (and Deanne's companion Daniel) were ambushed at the same time by a pair of fey pranksters. Thankfully, both halves of the party were able to overcome these obstacles and reunite.
The following day, Vymacith leads the party to the cave where the beast rests. There, they encountered a creature known as Manananggal, a horrific winged creature that could split itself in two and have its torso attack from above while its legs stay on the ground. Our party surrounded it and released physical attacks and radiant spells alike on it. Things seemed dire when its screech sent half our party fleeing in fear, but thankfully a series of attacks by Roy fell the beast before all was lost.
With the threat ended, Vymacith rewarded us for our help, with relics, fey influence, and more. We also investigated the creature more and found it was once an elf, who carried a bracelet which read "The Social Leech" in Elven.
