Locations The Last
Short summary:
We returned to find the forgotten fey city of The Last in political disarray. Four opposing factions, including the neighboring baronies, were running in the city's elections. We sought out the Black Knight, who sent the distress signal, and found out one of his memories was missing. After projecting ourselves into the knight's psyque, we discovered a coworker of his (the Green Knight), had erased it in an act of mercy. This memory contained the tragedy of the Black Knight's lover kidnapping, by a hag in search of vengeance. Turns out, the hag is still out there somewhere, with her hostage. We returned this memory to its owner, who returned the favor by showing his support to the creation of a popular assembly for the city. A democratic power that, hopefully, could keep the peace between the rest of opposing factions.
Full Report
With the purpose of returning to the recently returned fey city of The Last, in the hopes of establishing a formal diplomatic relation and investigate its previous disappearance, I, Dominique-Baptiste Emanuel, went and recruit the best of the best. A team this altruistic and humanitarian mission deserves: ones who are pretty efficient at taking any opposition... respectfully.
I must have had a deep emotional and mental connection with one of the greatest figures in this world's fey society, the one and only Black Knight, cause it was at this very moment the Guild received a letter of his, informing about a "mess, almost causing a civil war on the streets". In retrospect, that might have been a bit of a hyperbole. Regardless! It was a hero calling, and the heroes answered.
Our journey happened uneventfully, and the reached our destination at Last (this is an intentional pun). It was clear from the beginning the political landscape was rather tumultuous as we made our way into the city, surrounded by flags and supporters of different runners for power. These, turns out, were:
- The previous Mayor, a supporter of tradition.
- Self-appointed Goat Lord, a contrarian with no discernable agenda. Happened to be quite popular against naked old men.
- Captain Hook, stand-in for Lady Vesper of The Golden Court.
- Luva, stand-in for Lord Attys of The Purple Court.
The web of political allegiances was thick and obscured, so I thought the best course of action was to go straight to Black Knight. His squire had sent the distress call for us to aid the knight with a missing memories. One of the knight's coworkers, sir Green Knight, had removed something from his mind. And we were supposed to return it, in order to gain his favor. A ritual was performed with a convenient tool, thanks to Ninivit's resourcefulness, and we were able to dive into the knight's psyche. Here we discovered a plot, of one fungal impostor that was polluting a forest. This villain was felled by the Black Knight himself, and reenacted by your truly with (may I say) impeccable skill.
Alas, we advanced forward in this tale, and faced a final threat; a grave hag looking for vengeance. She happened to be married to this impostor... [Note to self, speculate the nature of their relation. Was this hag-shroom love ever consumated? A case worth of study.] ... and now had taken the knight's lover as hostage. A series of unfortunate events brought the tale to tragedy however. For my team was bested, prey of the witch's foul magic. Not even the mighty strikes of our hybrid fighter Khirl Galesinger, nor the spider-fueled heals of Tara Tula could keep up with it. So I, in a heroic deed worth of legend, tried to offer my live to save the rest. The witch, unfortunately, had other plans. As the tale was fated, she left with her hostage, leaving us (the Black Knight of the past) to carry this painful memory for eternity.
We realized then that the Green Knight had erased this memory in an act of mercy towards his companion, to end the Black Knight suffering. We brought these facts back to their owner, restoring the knight's tormented memory. In exchange, he let us convince him to encourage a change of government for the city: the creation of a popular assembly, that could balance the different opposing interests from neighboring powers. Hopefully, it was the correct choice.
