Eastern Landmass™

History

Xochicalco was one of the most prosperous Altepeme (city-states of Eastern Landmass Civilisation), ruled by the Tlahtoāni (god-king) called Xōchitl, the Lord (or Prince) of Flowers, the child of the Verdant Mother. Under his guidance, it reached incredible prosperity, and grew to become a full-fledged country.

Eventually, all the similar cities of the region united, and their demigod leaders formed a ruling council, where none of them held more power or influence than the rest.

Appearance

Xochicalco is a sprawling settlement. Its core is a lush, fortified palace-temple of Xochitl, while the verdant suburbs feature plenty of markets, terraced farms and gardens, chinampa plots, and parks. The buildings are incredibly colourful, some overgrown on purpose, with a lush garden around very corner. Festivals and celebrations was a common occurrence.

A river, Mother's Tears(?), flows through the city, passing between two hills. Two grand statues are carved into their sides, overseeing the city. They are dedicated to the nurturing and withering aspects of the Verdant Mother, respectively.

Next to the sea and on the river banks, there is a port and harbour.

Economy

Xochicalco focused on the production of food (especially agriculture) and its export, as well as arts of every kind, and luxuries such as alcohol and psychoactive substances. It expanded and gained influence and power not via conquest, but via extensive trade, and access to incredibly rich natural resources. It often dealt with the Vitruvian's City™, as its main trade partner.

When the cities united, Xochicalco was considered the second cultural centre of the country, following behind Tetzcotl, the Fabled City.

Inhabitants

Like all the other cities of the culture, this one was also mainly populated by Humans. However, the Ardande heritage was common. Fey, Leshies, and Ghorans could also be encountered.
