Charles de Gaulle, seeking to reclaim New Caledonia from an earlier overthrow and willingful integration to the Oceanykan Federation, organised an invasion of the archipelago. They were aided by forces from The Republic of Mardasia, which sought to perform a show of force and realise a pirate clean-up in that part of the Tasman Sea. Despite heavy resistance by the locals and support from a Farenday Pirates' Navy squadron, the Oceanykan Council decided to surrender the island after only a few months, largely thanks to the political crisis in Cestlep.
