English Electric Lightning

The English Electric Lightning is a British supersonic jet interceptor which was introduced in 1960, though its mass-production model the Lightning F.6 began introduction in the mid-1960s. As an interceptor, it possesses incredible flight characteristics and engine power (capable of over Mach 2), while its 30mm ADEN guns can easily bring down any known aircraft. If the guns won't do, the Red Top missile certainly will. It possesses the Ferranti AI.23 "AIRPASS" interception radar system, whose information is fed to the first-of-its-kind Heads-Up Display (HUD), located in the pilot's helmet. The last gunfighter of the jet age, perhaps, but as all things English, it is a machine for gentlemen. Few have made it to Oceanyka, where its aerodynamic capabilities are famed.
