The Patton tanks distinguished themselves in the snowy mountains of Korea and the humid jungles of Vietnam, never denying the enemy a chance to prove themselves. Even when surrounded and nearly overrun, the Patton tanks kept fighting with cannon, machinegun, and sometimes by running over the enemy with their tracks.
The M48 Patton is an American first-generation main battle tank, and the latest "main line" model of the first Patton tank family, which includes the M46 and M47. Though appearing too late for the Korean War, the M48 has distinguished itself fighting in the Vietnam War. Its actual mass-production variant is technically the M48A1, which addresses many technical issues with the first iteration of this machine. Powered by a Continental AV1790 gasoline engine, it can reach up to 45 km/h, somewhat slower than later MBTs. Additionally, it is armed with a variant of the 90mm Gun M1 cannon. The tank features an advanced fire control system, the first of its kind on an armoured vehicle, and a remote-controlled .50 BMG heavy machinegun.
