The Atomic Regulations Enforcement Section, colloquially known as the "Nuke Troopers", are an elite armed group under the command of the Department of Energy. ARES is tasked with intercepting and capturing illegal fissiles, most importantly rogue nuclear bombs, and dismantling unauthorised enrichment or reprocessing sites with extreme force. Due to the nature of their work, ARES soldiers are almost always seen in NBC suits, which causes them to use chemical weapons far more liberally than most other federal agencies.
Due to advances in chemical weapons development, including the proliferation of bleeding-edge nerve agents such as Tabun, Sarin, VX and the Soviet Novichok, as well as increasing efforts across the globe to create offensive biological weapons, the scope of ARES was quickly expanded to encompass all forms of weapons of mass destruction. However, their main focus continues to be atomic weapons, which are the deadliest in this class by far.
...that sounds awfully familiar though, doesn't it? Someone should check the ARES payroll.
