The War in Heaven is the name given to the three days and nights in which Aster ascended to the celestial plane and annihilated every other god.
Ancient Ferozen legend holds that upon reaching the heavens, Aster did not speak a single word, he simply began. His first blow struck down Plkazarr the Taker, whose shrieking body shattered the Earth as it fell, creating the Moon. Then came Clythea of the Springs, whose blood he drank to gain strength. One by one, the gods of wind, night, rot, thunder, madness, judgement, and desire fell, each by blade, by hand, or by their own stolen artefacts turned against them. It is said the heavens shook so violently that storms erupted across the known world. Temples cracked, idols bled, and mountains wept fire. Mortals felt it in their bones but could not name it.
At its end, Aster stood alone. His body was torn, his eyes burned white, and his hands still dripped divine ichor. From the bones of the fallen he built a throne at the centre of the firmament and cast down his commandments to mankind. Thus began the age of Asterism.
Fragment from the Canticle of Ashes
(~1,500 BCE, unknown author)
He rose not with word, nor with trumpet nor flame,
But barefoot, in silence, through smoke he came.
The gates of the sky he split with his tread,
Where gods in their splendour feasted on dread.
First fell the Taker, jaw split by a stone,
Then Clythea, whose strength he took as his own.
The brave fought back, the craven fled,
But Aster found each where their blood had bled.
He took up their weapons, each blade and rod,
And forged for himself the Throne of God.
Not crowned by men, nor by angels kissed,
But seated alone in a sky of mist.
And from that height did the fire descend,
To tell the living the war had end.
No more shall idols in shadow remain,
For Aster is Lord. The rest are slain.
