Gunpowder was introduced to the Malay archipelago in the 13th century with the Mongol invasion of Java. The defenders turned back an invading force, while capturing a number of firearms in the form of pole guns (handgonnes) and cannon. These weapons were reproduced and widely used, though their early military applications were very limited due to their unreliability in Nusantara's tropical climate. Bedil tombak, or "gun spears", began to be imported into Oceanyka soon after their appearance in Java, though they remained rare due to their dubious utility. It later evolved into the Bedil Jawa Arquebus.
Bedil Tombak Gunlance
Abilities
Common Attributes - Mechanical
Smoothbore
This weapon lacks rifling. While its projectiles have the kinetic energy to kill at a considerable distance, actually hitting a single target it a different story. It is best used in massed volley fire.
EFFECT:
This weapon suffers from a Hard DM to its hit rolls at maximum range. However, at one range below, it can fire with normal accuracy.
For example, a weapon with a range of Average Range will suffer from the malus at that distance, but if firing at Short Range or below, it will not.
Common Attributes - Miscellaneous
Pyrotechnic Assault - Primitive Guns
Very early firearms, such as fire lances and hand cannons, are not very long ranged and tend to spew much of their propellant in a cone. On the other hand, a cone of searing gunpowder can do some serious damage to unarmoured foes.
EFFECT:
Besides this weapon's regular damage profile, deal 1d6 FIRE-DMG 0 PEN to every creature within Point-Blank Range of the target.
