The Winchester Model 1873 is an American lever-action carbine produced by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company. It is an evolution of the prior Winchester Model 1866, firing the new .44-40 Winchester ammunition, the company's first metallic centrefire cartridge, which it feeds from a 13-round tube magazine. One key advantage of the Winchester Model 1873 is that .44-40 Winchester became the most popular American cartridge of the era; every contemporary revolver, including the legendary Colt Single Action Army, had a variant manufactured in this calibre. This meant a man could venture into the wild west armed with weapons which used the same ammunition. As with other Winchester lever-action rifles, the Model 1873 was popularised in Oceanyka by British settlers and colonial forces, which swore on its capabilities.
