The Saab 35 Draken is a Scandinavian jet fighter designed by Saab in the late 1950s. Notable for its distinctive double-delta wing design, the Draken was originally planned as an all-weather interceptor, though further modifications have made it a formidable strike fighter. The most modern version, which all Drakens will be upgraded to, is the (fictional) F 35F2 model, which features an improved Rolls-Royce Avon jet engine (locally produced as the Svenska Flygmotor RM6C) which allows it to reach 2,450 km/h or Mach 2.3, integration with the AIM-4 Falcon air-to-air missile, and at the request of Danish commanders in the Scandinavian Air Force, ample ground strike capabilities. Compared to the original version, the F 35F2 has a reduced cannon armament of one 30mm ADEN Cannon. Saab is known for its willingness to export defense products, resulting in a great number of Saab 35 Drakens being found across the world, primarily arming pro-western forces who can afford such a capable strike fighter.
Saab 35 Draken
Abilities
Common Attributes - Mechanical
Radar Systems
This vehicle is equipped with radar systems, allowing it to see far beyond what the Eyeball Mk. I can, even in adverse weather conditions or complete darkness.
EFFECT:
This vehicle is equipped with long-range radar, allowing it to detect enemy units far beyond Extreme Range. However, that is far from its only use:
- If the radar system is marked as (Missile Guidance), it can be used to target them with a Smart Munition.
Common Attributes - National
Arctic Interceptors - Scandinavian Aircraft (CW)
Scandinavia is, relative to its size, a titan of aerospace engineering within NATO. This is no coincidence, as the Soviets are always trying to stir something up in the Arctic Circle, be it by flying their bombers dangerously close to NATO airspace or performing military exercises at the border between Sweden and Finland. But if one thing is certain, it's that the Scandinavian Air Force will come to face them even in the midst of freezing blizzards.
EFFECT:
This unit gains +2 Air Superiority when fighting aircraft with the Red Thunder CA.
