The Ankeric Spear is an Oceanykan polearm measuring anywhere from 2 to 3 metres, designed to be used One-Handed alongside the Ankeric Shield, and used extensively by the Second Ankeric Empire of the Murray-Darling Basin. While the original version featured a tin bronze spearpoint, later reproductions almost universally possess a wrought iron or steel spearpoint. Imperial spears are an evolution of traditional Aboriginal spears optimised for fighting in close formation, lacking the flexibility of being able to throw them as a spear.

Common Attributes - Miscellaneous

Stand Fast - Melee Polearms

Polearms are the weapon of choice for the disciplined warrior fighting in formation. For thousands of years, they had been the dominating force of the battlefield, and were only evenutally bested by the gun.

EFFECT:
Polearms negate an enemy's bonuses when performing a Charge (2 AP), instead allowing their wielder to immediately Counterattack (0 AP) the charger.
Additionally, they possess greater reach, capable of hitting targets at Close Range (when using real distances, this distance is reduced to 5m).
This greater reach extends to Overwatch (1 AP) and to their charge counter; the Counterattack (0 AP) takes place at the polearm's range and not at the enemy's.

Unique Attributes

Imperial Phalanx - Ankeric Spear UA

The Second Ankeric Empire's troops were thoroughly drilled in the art of close-formation fighting. While their tactics later proved vulnerable to the thunderous charge of Ferozen warbands from all directions, for hundreds of years they bested their rivals through bronze-hard discipline.

EFFECT:
When two or more allied creatures equipped with this weapon are within Point-Blank Range of each other, Overwatch (1 AP) with this weapon costs 0 AP.
