At the absolute bottom of the Dreamspace lies the Anti-Ontological Layer, often referred to by deep-dive researchers as "the Null". This is the lightless, soundless abyss of the Dreamspace, the final trench where the pressure of all the layers above compresses potentiality into a dense void of formless everything. The Null is not made of thoughts, memories, or even abstract laws; it is the raw, unrefined "ink" of the universe before it is ever put to paper. In this layer, the concept of "being" has not yet been established. It is a state of absolute potential, a place where causality itself is suspended, but all existences are superimposed. Psionic theorists suggest that the Null Zone is the "Reset" mechanism of the universe. It is a realm of perfect, terrifying potential, where everything that could be, is, making it the most dangerous location in existence.
There are no known inhabitants of the Anti-Ontological Layer, for to "inhabit" something implies an orderly existence, and order is precisely what the Null forbids. This is an issue for things that are "constituted", such as human beings, or even robotic probes. What few insights have been acquired from this region of the Dreamspace have only been able to detect a single strange signature with orderly intent, colloquially named as the "Grand Guignol", hypothesised to be a meta-physical entity that watches the turning of the universe from the only place that is immune to change, perhaps even orchestrating events beyond its den. To touch the Null means, under most circumstances, to be Hollowed instantly and retroactively. This is not merely a death of the body or even a destruction of the soul; it is an erasure of the individual’s entire history. When a person is hollowed by the Anti-Ontological Layer, they are scrubbed from the memories of their loved ones, their records vanish from archives, and the very space they occupied in the world is filled in by the wheels of causality as if they never existed at all. The Null is the final destination for a reality that has run its course.
The Anti-Ontological Layer was only recently discovered thanks to the efforts of a venturous unlicensed Sorcerer whose dreaming soul entered it and, somehow, had their physical body survive. They were found in a comatose state with no registration of their birth, no records and no one in their coven knowing of their existence. The home in which they were found was written up as abandoned since the 1940s, despite the fact it was obviously rather clean and recently inhabited. Statistical analysis revealed that supply consumption in a base belonging to the Federal Special Research Division had 13 persons unaccounted for in the Dreamspace Research Squadron, all of them licensed sorcerers and involuntary test subjects.
Entering the Anti-Ontological Layer is impossible with current technology. Robotic probes are only able to skim its surface for fractions of a second. Longer incursions are not known of, most likely because the probes themselves were erased from all realities, alongside their data.
