đŸ Overview
The Singing Fen is a vast expanse of reed-choked marshland, blackwater pools, moss-covered hillocks, and echoing wind tunnels that turn the landscape into a choir of eerie, shifting sound. The wind plays the reeds like flutes, and sometimesâparticularly at duskâvoices join the tune.
Most of them are dead.
The Fen is alive with resonant memory. Spirits of those drowned, slain, or entombed in the marsh answer when calledâbut never clearly. A whispered song, a hummed lullaby, a dirge half-remembered⊠these can summon blessings, omens, or possession.
But the Saiâtehlim giants, once lords of Stonehell and this region, are not truly gone. Some survive as feral marsh-walkers, vast and hunched, mad with grief, their past lost to rot and myth. A wyrm's shadow hangs over their story still.
đ§ââïž Inhabitants and Factions
đ¶ Fenfolk Halflings (River Clade)
Peaceful and deeply spiritual, the halflings of the Fen live in stilt villages woven from reed-cane and duskwood. They smoke fish, brew dreamroot teas, and sing nightly to honor the dead and ask for safe passage.
-
Known to trade with Pale Lodge, Brinewood druids, and even certain Drow swamp-princes.
-
Guided by song-keepers who memorize every melody ever sung to the Fen.
-
Customs:
-
Every child is named with a wind-tone.
-
All boats carry woven reed charms that rattle like windchimes.
-
Singing in anger is a tabooâsuch songs are said to draw curses.
-
đŁ Feral Saiâtehlim Giants
Once proud ritualists and sky-astrologers, the Saiâtehlim were driven from Stonehell a thousand years ago when the wyrm Lightning Reflected in Terrified Eyes shattered their line.
Now, many have devolved into grunting, swamp-covered hulks, their minds broken by sorrow and magic.
-
They wield massive reed-wrapped clubs, sling boulders of stonehell rubble, and wear fragments of old ceremonial jewelry.
-
Some can still speak the Giant tongueâmostly in half-chants or broken riddles about the stars.
-
Some have fled west, clashing with patrols from Ember Bastion, and have since become entrenched in the Blackfang Foothills, hunted and cornered.
-
A few are rumored to guard relics of their lost kin, or even speak with the Fenâs wind, believing it to carry voices of their dead elders.
đ Legacy of the Wyrm â âLightning Reflected in Terrified Eyesâ
This ancient dragon claimed Stonehell after slaying the last Giant-King. Though its current status is unknown (perhaps vanished, perhaps slumbering, perhaps something worse), its presence echoes through the Fen.
-
Its magic corrupted the Fenâs winds, giving rise to haunted resonance.
-
Black glass scales occasionally surface in the marshâhighly magical and cursed.
-
Some Fenfolk believe the Wyrmâs soul is trapped in the wind, hunting for a new vessel.
