🌙 Nalandor — The Veilgate of the Brinewood

Population: ~2,000
Dominant Alignment: Lawful
Purpose: A curated beacon of elven grace, tradition, and mystical wonder—designed for outsiders, not just elves
Ruling Power: Lanethir Vaelis, Warden of the Veil
Common Languages: Elvish, Common, Gnomish, Dwarvish
Nearby Terrain: Verdant hills, twin rivers (Elanduin & Cilthariel), Brinewood Forest
Religions: Corellon Larethian (Lawful), Sehanine Moonbow (Neutral), Rillifane Rallathil (Neutral)

🏛️ Purpose & Presentation

Nalandor is not the heart of elvendom, but rather its ceremonial mask—a city designed to embody everything the world expects of elves: graceful towers, haunting song, serene wisdom, moonlit rituals, and the hush of agelessness. This is not deception, for every stone and rite is truly elven—but it is purposefully performative.

To the elves, Nalandor is known as "Aeliria'mir", or "the Stage of Grace." Its pageants and processions are for them as much as for the guests—an echo of what they wish to preserve, even as the Brinewood darkens and the outside world grows loud.

🧝‍♂️ Demographics (Population ~2,000)

  • Gray Elves: ~1,200 (Lawful) – curators, nobles, ritualists

  • Wood Elves: ~600 (Neutral) – guardians, gardeners, druidic stewards

  • Humans: ~100 (Lawful or Neutral) – diplomats, scholars, traders (restricted quarters)

  • Gnomes: ~50 (Neutral) – illusionists, botanists, alchemical artisans

  • Dwarves: ~50 (Lawful) – sanctioned masons, treaty emissaries

🎭 The City's Veiled Reality

To the outsider, Nalandor is a marvel: elegant towers singing with wind-chimes made of moon-glass, elven voices in harmony at dawn and dusk, guards in gleaming leafmail moving like shadows, and ancient rituals held beneath silver canopies.

To the elves, this is... presentation.
Daily life—family meals, squabbles over orchard plots, dull shifts on the Willowwall—is done elsewhere, in upper terraces or hidden glades outsiders will never see.

No elf would ever say Nalandor is dishonest. But what outsiders see is what the elves wish the world to remember of them: timeless, graceful, and united.

🌆 Districts (Revised with Emphasis on Pageantry)

🏛️ The Veilspire

Now a holy monument as much as a seat of power, its mirrored surfaces reflect not just light, but ritual significance. Public ceremonies—moonblessings, renewal dances, and proclamations—occur here with deliberate majesty.

🎶 The Moonwell Circle

A theatrical stage of nature. The moonwell is real and sacred, but every performance around it—from the singing rites to the lighting of silver-torches—is orchestrated for symbolism and spectacle.

🌿 The Garden of Forms

A newer addition for outsiders: a curated garden showing elven architecture, seasonal flora, sacred stones, and even traditional dwellings. Guides offer lectures (in Common) on “Elven Essence.” Wood elves grumble at this, but it remains.

🪶 The Whispering Court

Still a place of debate and diplomacy, but now ringed with public viewing terraces for guests. All major decisions are still made in private—this space is for appearances.

🛶 The Riverward & Crescent Quarters

Expanded slightly to accommodate guest embassies, scholar's lodges, and trade pavilions. Human and dwarven presence is allowed, but always with a light touch of ceremony—never too familiar.

🧙‍♂️ Key Figures

Lanethir Vaelis, Warden of the Veil (Gray Elf, Lawful)

Less a ruler than a high priest of presentation. He governs with subtle hand gestures, riddled speech, and rare, awe-striking appearances that remind outsiders of elven power. But behind closed doors, he is an aging strategist, clinging to unity.

Selavien Moondrift, Lorekeeper (Gray Elf, Neutral)

Master of pageant, orchestrator of the Moonwell performances, and curator of “The Seven Echoes”—a mythic story performed for visiting dignitaries. Privately cynical, but passionately devoted to elven culture.

Telnaril of the Thorned Gaze, Captain of the Willowguard (Wood Elf, Neutral)

Detests the theatrical trappings. Keeps his rangers invisible, his blades sharp, and his suspicions high. Does not speak in the public court unless compelled.

⚖️ Traditions and Limits

  • Outsiders must observe dress customs when invited to formal rites.

  • Spontaneous questions are discouraged—dialogue with elves is to be earned.

  • A guest’s true worth is judged by grace, not ambition.

  • No outsider may enter the Brinewood from Nalandor without being named in ritual by Lanethir or Selavien.
