While personality traits of each Kinfolk are varied, they tend to be erratic and have a primal aura around them, even spite that those who are born as one go through the same stages of development as normal human children, thus they are just as shaped by their environment as those who lived a normal life until being adopted. However, all kinfolk exhibit a supernatural "tells" that gives away their nature to those who know how to look.
This tells vary from kin to kin on number and how much supernaturally apparent they are according to how strong the Nahual blood is in them. Some may have only one inconsequential tell like a having a headache each time an spiritual disturbance occurs near them in the material world, while others might have several on top of the bad luck of being directly born in the pure form and be forever destined to change into a Nahual from birth.
Tells are divided between three levels:
- Subtle: Self explanatory, this are tales that aren't visible and can pass as a normal occurrence or some kind of other supernatural ability that does not necessarily correlates to a Kinfolk, thus throwing off anyone who is looking for them
- Noticeable: While not necessarily visible, this tells are typical of Kinfolk and can cause Dreadwake if a mortal discovers its true origins. Those looking for Kinfolk might look for this tells if they are intelligent enough.
- Unconcealable: This are tells that cannot be hidden or pass off as an anatomical anomaly when a mortal sees them. The true nature of the kinfolk is open to all to see.
Tells list
The following is a list of documented well known tells that a vast majority of kinfolk have:
- Tell (Level Subtle - Noticeable - Unconcealable):
- Description
- Spiritual ache (Subtle):
- This Kinfolk suffers from a minor headache each time they pass near a spiritual disturbance, this can include ghost or spirits trapped in the horizon, ongoing rituals, pentacularum or spatial anomalies. In order to not succumb to it and pass out from the stress the Kinfolk must resit it with their will, they also can track the origin of the disturbance by how strong the ache gets.
- Honeyblood (Subtle):
- The sweat of this Kinfolk produce an invigorating scent that can help another recover mentally, but can have a quick addictive effect.
- Ban (Subtle):
- In same as spirits, this Kinfolk suffers from binding compulsion that prohibits them from doing a certain action otherwise they suffer mental damage, tho every time they indulge in this Ban they are able to recover from mental stress.
- Wolfsence (Subtle - common on those who's blood is close to the Lobizónes):
- This Kinfolk is able to track like a wolf, being quickly to pick up a scent or noise and track it to its origins at the cost of becoming more sensitive to bright flashes, loud noises, and intense scents and tastes.
- Wellspring (Subtle):
- The blood of this Kinfolk is rich in Essence allowing any supernatural being or spirit to gain double the Essence thru the drinking of this kinfolk blood at the cost of the Kin's health.
- Marked (Subtle):
- These Kin have a special distinguishing birthmark that differentiates them for the rest, it correlates to one of the existent domains which allows the Blooded to automatically be resonant in that domain.
- Whispers (Subtle):
- This Yolotimeh hear strange voices that can reveal information about a particular person to them at the cost of their sanity.
- Penumbral twin (Subtle to Noticeable by Nahuals):
- A reflection in the form of a twin of a given Kin lives in the Penumbrae. The twins can trade places if desired, allowing the Mortal Kin to side step into the Penumbrae. This come at the cost of their sanity and that the twins feel like a fish out of water when in the others shoe.
- Liar skin (Level Subtle to Noticeable):
- These Yolotli have the skin of Nahual animal under they human skin, adding them a layer of protection but provoking Dreadwake if a pure mortal see their exposed skin.
- Phantom protector (Subtle to Noticeable):
- These Kin have a Phantasmal companion/s that correlates to the animal of one nahual, this is not a spirit however and it will follow the Blooded everywhere they go, making its or their presence known from time to time by way of howling or animal marks.
- Animal features (Subtle to Noticeable):
- These Kin have secondary features characteristic of an associated Nahual animal, for example wolf ears, a bull tail, snake tongue or fangs, etc. This characteristics are permanent and while some are more easy to hide, others are not.
- Involuntary shift (Subtle to Unconcealable - most common on those with Lobizon or Ajabayan blood in them):
- During an specific period like the full moon, the summer solstice or another, this Yolotli will involuntary shapeshift to the primodrial form of a given nahual that they are most associate with and will stay like that for the next 12hs.
- Second Skin (Noticeable - only present on those born as Blooded):
- This Yolotli was born together with a sibling pelt animal pelt that corresponds to that of a Nahual. They will take care of this seemingly alive pelt until maturity when they can done it in order to run as the corresponding animal.
- Loose Grip (Noticeable):
- These Blooded can side step in the same way that a Nahual can but at the cost of gaining a mental consequence.
- Piercing Eyes (Noticeable):
- The eyes of these Kinfolk glow with a strange radiant unnatural colour or shape. This set of eyes allows the Blooded to see into the Penumbrae without the need to side step, it also allows them to inflict Dreadwake on those who the kin stares at by spending part of their essence.
- Evil eye (Noticeable):
- Some Blooded might have an eye with an strange foreboding colour that when stare at by normal mortals can cause bad luck or a mental consequence that affects they activities.
- Symbiosis (Noticeable):
- The Yolotli has a spiritual or animal companion attached to their soul. These companions are generally a minor Centzon but can be anything. Due to their souls being tied to this companion, every time one suffers damage the other will be recipient of it. Plus this Blooded cannot become a Pentacularum and each individual still retain their individuality despite being tide together. If the companion dies the Kin will become spiritually dead, leaving their body to be possessed, if the reversal happens then the companion dies. This tell also allows the sharing of Essence no matter where the two are located.
- Bonded soul (Noticeable only to other Nahuals):
- Those of the Kin who are Bonded Souls to a Nahual received the benefit of having a partner that can always find them, who can transfer any injuries to themselves and that will always recognize them even in a state of Frenzy. The Bonded Mate will live as long and healthy as their partner even adopting the same abilities. However, Nahuals who have a bonded kin are particularly overprotective of them counting part of their soul is on the line, plus this bond is not chosen but set by the Nahual's patron deity. While generally those who are romantic partners of a determine Nahual will become bonded, in reality it can be anyone that might be considered important to the Nahual's future, so children, friends, siblings or even parents can be or become bonded. This bond can be broken without the need to kill one of the parts if sufficient evidence its presented to a spiritual mensager or if the two parts grow apart. If the Nahual in question dies then the bond is broken automatically without repercussion to the Kin but if the Blooded dies before the shapeshifter then it's souls becomes spiritually dead leaving them open to possession and/or distortion due to the failure to safeguard the Kin. Usually the bond is a particularly show of loyalty from one Kin to a Nahual, thus it's not always set at birth but rather in throughout their lives. Shamans who solicit the help of the Centzon or a spirit subservient to their patron can manifest a bond between two kindred souls. This tell is rare and only a few have it.
- Devil inside (Noticeable):
- These kinfolk suffer from being more volatile than the rest, to the point they can temporally succumb to frenzy and shapeshift into the near human form of determined nahual.
- Twinshift (Noticeable):
- Those kinfolk who have this tell suffer the little inconvenience, or grace, that each time they see themselves at the edge of sanity or high stress, their soul, rather than distort or suffer a metal consequence, activates a self defence mechanism that manifest as a shapeshifting ability that, instead of converting them into a monster, makes their bodies shift biological sex and appearance. This transformation is Biologically complete meaning that a kinfolk with a female body pass to have a male body with its corresponding parts and an appearance that mirrors that of a twin sibling of their older self. Like it was said, this transformation is not voluntary unless the kinfolk put themselves in a stressful situation that drives them to the point of breaking this tell will not trigger, it also only covers against a consequence or fall to detorsión every 6 hours so the Kin needs to get out of that situation asap otherwise risking to break.
- Bestial reflection (Noticeable to Unconcealable):
- The Yolotli reflection is inhuman, instead of showing their mortal form it shows a beast that looks like the pure form of one of their parental or most influential Nahual blooded patron. It is classified both as Noticeable and Unconcealable counting that mirrors and reflective surfaces can be mostly avoided but it can't be hidden otherwise.
- Horns (Unconcealable - common on those who's blood is close to the Urutorai, Cerninith and/or Ajabayan):
- These Yolotimeh have visible animal horns growing up on their heads, they can take any shape and form imaginable and can be use openly in combat if the Kin is skillful with them.
- Quicksilver (Unconcealable):
- The body of a Yolotli with this tell will shapeshift random parts of itself to that of a pure form of a given type Nahual at random intervals. This random transformation can be triggered by share will of the Yolotli once per day.
- Bestial birth (Unconcealable - tell manifested at birth):
- Those of the Kin who go thru a bestial birth are born in the pure form of one of their parents Nahual. This Blooded are destined to become Nahuals, so its not a matter of if but when they will go thru their first change. In the mean time the parents have to contempt with having to raise a bestial child.
