Mordakhesh

The Shadowsword
NPC (Villain)

When demon fought dragon, the rajahs relied on their own raw power to overcome all foes. The legions of lesser fiends required strategists and cunning generals, and Mordakhesh became known as one of the greatest commanders of the first age. Today he serves as the prakhutu of the Rage of War, the Overlord Rak Tulkhesh, and he seeks to free his master by bathing the world in blood.

Mordakhesh is a spider with many webs. He spends his time slowly amassing a barbarian horde in the Demon Wastes, savage warriors who fight under the banner of the black blade; one day he might lead these soldiers into Khorvaire, sweeping into Aundair on a tide of blood. His claws and pawns include soldiers and officers in every army in Khorvaire, and many of the horrors of the Last War were instigated or at least encouraged by his agents. Mordakhesh himself often replaced his claws to oversee particularly brutal massacres. The DM must decide just how far the Shadowsword's reach extends and if any known commanders serve him as agents. As deadly as he is in melee combat, Mordakhesh's greatest weapon is his charisma - and his ability to inspire decent people into performing terrible acts in the name of war.

In the age when fiends and dragons waged war across Eberron, rakshasas served the fiendish lords as strategists and generals. A rakshasa named Mordakhesh rose up through the ranks to become one of the greatest commanders of his age, and a dragon-slaying specialist. For this, he earned the nickname Shadowsword, along with a legendary reputation for leaving death in his wake.

Mordakhesh serves as the prakhutu or “speaker” of his imprisoned master, Rak Tulkhesh, and he seeks to free his lord by bathing the world in blood. Like a spider with multiple webs, he has agents and pawns (which he calls his “claws”) established in armies across Khorvaire. The most significant of those is the barbarian horde he amasses in the Demon Wastes—warriors who threaten to sweep into Aundair on a tide of blood.

Many of the horrors of the Last War were instigated—or at least encouraged—by Mordakhesh’s operatives, and his claws are known to have perpetrated some of the most brutal massacres of that conflict. No one knows how far the Shadowsword’s reach extends, or which commanders in the armies of Khorvaire serve him.
