Background
Hashim is a Yuan-ti who was born in the Savage Lands to a Yuan-ti mother named Sekaa and Tragon - a Yuan-ti merc who died in battle during a fight against other tribes. Both Sekaa and Haashim lived on the road during the newborn years of their life. One day Sekaa got an opportunity from a priest from the Eratus Empire to work as an apothecary in one of the many monasteries on the Eratus continent. The priest told her she and Hashim could have a new life away from the dangers of warring tribes and the threat of spiders and raise her son in a better environment. Still, they would need to learn and accept Arzen into their lives. Sekaa agreed with glee, and with Hashim in her arms, they boarded a ship sailing toward a better future. Sekaa found a monastery on the eastern side of the Eratus continent and had difficulty fitting in with the other members because most were human. Still, over time, she proved her worth and adjusted better.
During Hashim's childhood, he was given a fundamental education but had trouble learning. He faced trouble from others due to his snake-like appearance and lisp, causing him to be bullied by his peers, which led him to become anti-social. But where he lacked in some aspects, he excelled in others, being quite strong, extremely fast, very healthy, and as wise as others of his young age.
The monastery where he lived had an order of warriors dedicated to living there to seek personal perfection through contemplation and rigorous training; these warriors were called monks. Hashim would see them day in and day out, exercising and meditating, and sometimes Hashim would see strange powers emitting from them. One day Hashim would walk into the temple of monks and ask to become one. A monk would take Hashim to the temple abbot, and they would discuss why he would become one. Hashim would tell the Abbot that he doesn't have much to do inside their small community, the other children don't want to be around him, and the abilities of the monks look incredible. The Abbot would chuckle at the last statement but would tell Hashim that what they do here is to achieve harmony and balance with the physical and spiritual world. With glee, Hashim started his journey as a monk of the Eratus Empire.
Over the years of training with the monks, Hashim gained more understanding of the physical and spiritual aspects of the world and himself. One day an officer of the fire legion would ask the Abbot if any of his students could join the war effort for the empire. Hashim, along with other non-disabled monks, were conscripted into the Fire Legion and told to gather what they needed during the journey and say farewells to their loved ones. Sekaa was saddened by this cause and hugged her son and prayed he would return home, Hashim promised, and then he went to the Abbot and thanked him for his teachings. With smiles and some tears, the Abbot and Hashim nodded to each other, and Hashim left for his next step in life.
