Description
In the elder days of the Lands of Arda, when all was yet unmade, the Fragments crafted the cosmic leylines that guide the souls of the departed towards their final destination. These pathways of the spirit are as ancient as the stars themselves and are known only to the most learned and wise of beings. The leylines have two colors, blue and golden. The blue ones depart from this world, while the golden ones arrive.
At the heart of these leylines lies the Divine Realm, a place of pure light and perfect peace where the blessed dwell in the presence of the gods. But the path to this realm is perilous, for it winds its way through the shadowy places of the world, passing ever closer to the abyssal depths of Damnation, the world that contains the Abyss and Hell.
Few mortals have ever seen the Abyss, and those who have are forever scarred by the experience. It is a place of utter darkness and despair, where the lost and forsaken wander in eternal torment. The stench of sulfur and brimstone fills the air, and the very ground seems to writhe in agony. The spirits of the dead must pass near this place, and many are the souls who are drawn towards its terrible depths, lured by the whispers of the dark powers that dwell within.
But those who keep to the leylines and remain steadfast in their faith need not fear Damnation. They will be guided safely through the shadowy places and into the light of the Divine Realm, where they will dwell forever in the presence of the Creator. For the cosmic leylines are a gift of the Fragments, a testament to their love for all the creatures of the Lands of Arda, and a reminder that even in the darkest of places, hope and light can still be found.
Afterlife
What happens after a creature's death, differs, depending on the origins of its species. Species that were created by the Fragments (Deities), have "fragmented" souls, that are able to ride the cosmic leylines into the afterlife. Creatures that were not created by the gods, have "worldly" souls, that cannot travel the leylines but instead wander aimlessly forever in the world's ethereal plane. Fragmented souls depart the body once it's dead and slowly start drifting away from it, moving closer to the leylines, often dragged away by a Grim Reaper. Upon reaching and riding the blue leylines, the soul starts its travel away from the world. Spells that bring back life to a creature, affect the leyline's path, temporarily turning the single blue thread the soul was riding to touch a golden one and guide the soul back. However, sometimes this is not possible sometimes, if the soul has wandered off, away from the leyline. Creatures with worldly souls are simply called back from the ethereal planes where their aimless souls wander.
Notable Participants
