Greenhorn is a warrior though and though.
Early Life

Greenhorn grew up in a roaming warrior tribe, going and fighting different enemies.

Greenhorn in his tribe grew up to become the tip of the spear for his tribes warring band. During his first battle victory or loss, he was to get his true name, but during the first fight, Greenhorn had fled the battle. In turn, he was banished in shame and dishonor.

Roaming the lands trying to regain his honor, joined the elves because they are the weakest to make them stronger.

Nobody decides to endanger themselves without good reason. Were
you forced to leave your previous lifestyle? What happened that
changed you from a safe job, like a farmer, to an
adventurer?
He wasn't really motivated to leave, he was banished to from his previous life to roam in shame. He looks for a great battle to redeem himself but he doesn't know how.

Flaws

This is more for plot hooks. It could be a missed
opportunity or something they feel bad about.
Because of fleeing his first battle, Greenhorn will go into every battle without hesitation.
