Description
Once every couple thousands of years, Arda experiences a unique phenomenon knows as Ethereal Convergence, which lasts for a day. During this time, the boundaries between the Ethereal Plane, the Divine Realm and mortal worlds grow thin, allowing echoes of spirits from random worlds, to manifest on each mortal world. These spirits are echoes of individuals who once lived in any of those worlds, but are now long gone. They carry stories, wisdom, requests and sometimes warnings from the past.
Consequences
When the Ethereal Convergence takes place in Arda, mortals around the world get to interact with those spirits. Many times these spirits come from other worlds, thus lack any means of tangible communication, or other times they are a creature that doesn't want to communicate or want to trick mortals. However, some other times, creatures who have existed previously in Arda, bring warnings and wisdom that help those who are now alive.
Player Event!
To commemorate our 1-year anniversary in Kanka, the Ethereal Convergence will become a player event! Each player, or member of our discord community, can create spirits that can appear during the Ethereal Convergence day (which will happen in all current games!). The player character will interact with random spirits that are available, have chances to obtain knowledge, secrets or warnings for their campaign or even get (learn) a cantrip! Furthermore, the player from each group with the best contribution of spirits will get the Borrowed Knowledge spell as an innate spell that they can cast from level 3 and onwards! Each Spirit entry will also get you a Fate Token!
The rules for the creation of spirits are the following:
- You must use the template provided here and fill all the fields. Template can be found in the Characters category, same way you created a character profile.
- The winner from each group will be decided based on quality and number of spirits created. Multiple entries are allowed. One winner per group and same player can't win twice.
- Images are not required for the spirits, a good description is preferred.
- Each spirit entry must have a unique name. If a NPC exists in Arda with the spirit's name, that spirit is disqualified.
- Spirit submissions close on 24th of January (the day of our Kanka anniversary).
- The spirits cannot physical or magically interact with the world. They appear only like holograms, and they can attempt to communicate.
- The spirits all have a translucent blue-grey form.
The spirits can be literally anything, as they might be coming from worlds that cannot be perceived by mortals of Arda. As the Divine Realm serves as a hub between those worlds, the spirit can cross worlds during the Ethereal Convergence even for a day. The only restrictions is that other worlds also do not know the existence of Arda, so there's no possibility for any spirit of those to be able to speak a shared language. However, they can attempt to communicate through movements and gestures.
