Elixir of Misplaced Confidence

Potion (Contest Entry)

Description:

  • A golden liquid that sparkles with an unnatural glow. The bottle is engraved with the words “Trust Me.”

Effect:

  • The drinker suddenly believes they are an expert in everything, regardless of their actual skill level. For the next hour, they will attempt to perform complex tasks without hesitation, even if they have no idea what they're doing.

Mechanics:

  • The drinker must make a DC 10 Charisma (Deception) check every time they attempt to do something outside their skillset. On success, they convince those around them (and possibly even themselves) that they are competent, though the results may still be disastrous.

Usage:

  • Often used by adventurers before challenging a dragon, only to end up confidently negotiating with a boulder they mistook for the beast.

Notes:

  • Rumor has it this potion was created by an alchemist who got tired of people second-guessing themselves. Now, it's popular among those who think a little overconfidence is the key to success—often with hilarious results.
