The Fog is a malevolent entity that subsumes all life and twists reality itself. Even in the Bastions and larger settlements, where it is thinnest, its pervasive influence can be felt as an occasional whisper, a burst of anger or sluggishness, an intrusive thought. It delights in your aggressiveness and rash decisions, wants you to be mindless and violent. To a rare few like yourself, it grants freedom from thirst, hunger and age. Its power courses through your lungs, allowing you to perform feats beyond the reach of mundane folk. Yer whenever danger comes your way, its curses make it difficult for you to focus and survive. The Fog is malice, raw and unadulterated.
Fog Points
Fog Points (FOG) represent the degree to which your body and mind become saturated with the malevolent Fog, taking in its power while risking ruination. Attempting to tip the scales in your favour, you accrue FOG to use Path abilities, boost your attack, defense or skill rolls with additional dice. You must accrue FOG before the result of a roll is known. Regardless of the result, you accrue the points. FOG accrued also doubles as experience points, used to progress your character.
Using Path Abilities
All abilities are either Active or Passive. As their name implies, you choose to use Active abilities by paying their cost, while Passive abilities happen on their own.
All Active Path abilities have a cost in FOG, represented as a die. To use the ability, pay the Actions cost, roll the FOG die and accrue its result.
Boosting rolls with FOG
Before you make an attack, defence or skill roll, you can give yourself a bonus by rolling FOG and accruing the result. The bonus you gain depends on the die you choose to roll.
FOG | Bonus |
---|---|
1d4 | +1 |
1d6 | +2 |
1d8 | +3 |
1d10 | +4 |
1d12 | +5 |
Fog Limit
You are tolerant to the Fog’s influence...to some degree. Your Fog Limit, expressed as a number, represents how much FOG you can accrue without permanent consequences. This limit depends on your level, kin, class and attributes. Though exceedingly rare, some magic items contribute as well. When you reach your Limit, you can reset Fog points at the cost of rolling on the Curse Table. When you roll a new curse, create a track for it. When you roll a curse you are already inflicted with, mark one box on its track.
1 | All current curses increase by 1 rank |
2 - 3 - 4 | The Blue Rage |
5 - 6 - 7 | The Gift of Iron |
8 - 9 - 10 | The Wretched Withering |
11 - 12 - 13 | The Mind Eater |
14 - 15 - 16 | The Craving |
