Battle of Eburacum

Battle

King Uther's army musters at Linden Pool. Yet again, Gorlois the Duke of Cornwall and his men are nowhere to be seen!

Two Saxons kings of the north, Octa of Nohaut (son of Hengest and brother of Aesc, King of Kent) and Eosa of Deira (son of Horsa and Hengest’s nephew), besiege ancient Eburacum, the great civitas of the Kingdom of Malahaut. However, when they hear that King Uther is approaching, they leave a force to blockade the garrison inside Eburacum, and march south to lay an ambush to King Uther’s army.

It is a large battle where King Uther's superior army was surprised by a Saxon ambush attacking the marching British columns from three sides! Chaos reigned.

Panic spread as the Saxons shred the British army into small chunks. Barons were shouting for the knights to rally to their banners. The rear of the Briton army and most of the foot soldiers were already routing southwards back to Logres.

Trumpets blew an order to retreat, and the knots of knights around the banners of their lieges try to break out from the mass of Saxons.

The desperate break-out attempts continued, while the Saxon noose tightened around the remains of the army.

The King and his guard finally managed to break free! Saxons tried to block Uther’s escape, which drew their attention away from the rest of the army.

The whole Briton army was now in flight. The Saxons, on foot, could not catch the still mounted knights, and instead mopped up the survivors, calling them to surrender, no doubt intending to enslave the captives.

The Saxon army looted the battlefield and then marched southwards just a couple of miles, before they encamped to celebrate their victory.

Rapport
