The tyrant Vortigern built this castle the first time, on the slopes of Mount Snowdon. Here it was that Merlin, then called Emrys, revealed himself to the world with his prophecies. Vortigern later abandoned it, and in time it was occupied by troops of Aurelius Ambrosius.
Now it is a castle of the King of Gomeret.
