History of Krunbar, and rise of the Warforged

Founding

  • ~3200 BFA: The foundation of Krunbar, north of the continent of Rexendell. Initial settlers consisted of twelve Dwarven clans united under the leadership of King Durin the Forgefather. Krunbar prospered due to its lands being inhabitated by vast mountain chains containing mineral deposits and the Dwarves' expert craftsmanship. The capital city of Khaz Morgrum is established around the same time, beneath what is now known as the Frostfang Peaks. Over the next several hundred years, the city would expand and delve deeper.

  • ~2900 BFA: The Great Forge of Krunbar was built, a marvel of Dwarven engineering that allowed them to craft goods of unrivaled quality. The location of the Forge has since been lost.

  • 1176 BFA: The Dwarves, in a bid to explore deeper into the earth, discovered the Underdark, another realm which borders the material plane, unintentionally making first contact with the Drow. The incident became known as the Dark Discovery.

The War of Shadows

  • 1174 BFA: The Drow launched their first attack against Krunbar, initiating a decades-long war. The attack consisted of occupying the outlying settlements of the kingdom, setting the stage for the war to come.
  • 1172 BFA: The dwarves score a decisive victory against the Drow during the Battle of the Iron Pass, pushing them back and securing a key mountain pass.
  • 1168 BFA: The Battle of Deep Shadows occurred, a significant military encounter in which the Dwarves attempted to repel the Drow. It resulted in a decisive victory for the Drow, further establishing their dominance.
  • 1160 BFA: The Dwarven scholars, led by Master Tinkerer Thulina Gearscribe, created the first Warforged in response to the Drow threat, initiating the Era of Iron Soldiers.
  • 1158 BFA: The Dwarven army, aided by the Warforged, won a significant victory in the Battle of Steel Souls. However, the high cost of soul-bound Warforged production led to its discontinuation. Most Warforged are put into stasis, with some deciding to help out in the last days of the war. The last king of Krunbar transfers his dying soul to a Warforged body in hopes of survival, but as with all souls that inhabit Warforged, the identity is lost.
  • 1154 BFA: The Siege of Khaz Morgrum marked the fall of Krunbar. The Drow, utilizing dark magics, took control of the capital, marking the end of the kingdom. Some Warforged goes into hiding and place themselves into hibernation, in the hope of one day being awoken and rescued from the Drow occupiers.

Post Krunbar Era

  • 890 BFA: After decades of wandering and struggle, the remaining Dwarven clans found a new home, forming the City of Khuzunzan beneath the Iron Hills.

Reign of the Drow and the Aftermath

  • 0 BFA: The Drow were almost entirely wiped out in a massive conflict known as the Betrayal. The Underdark was left nearly deserted, with only remnants of the once-mighty Drow society remaining.

The Orcish Era

  • 381 FA: Orcs, taking advantage of the deserted land, moved in and established their kingdom, founding the capital city Darmurd amidst the ruins of Khaz Morgrum. This marked the beginning of the Orcish era, with the scars of the old Dwarven Kingdom as a constant reminder of the region's tumultuous history.
