The landscape of Acedia is one of extreme decadence and indulgence, with hills of flesh and fat, oozing with pus and excrement. Those who enter this layer of Hell find themselves in a surreal world of physical pleasure and excess, where every desire and whim is catered to. The air is thick with the scent of perfume, incense, and rotting flesh, and the ground beneath their feet is soft and yielding, made up of layers upon layers of human and animal fat. The inhabitants of Acedia are the slothful, those who refused to take action in life and allowed their opportunities to pass them by. They are grotesque and bloated, their bodies swollen with excess and their faces eternally blank, lost in the haze of pleasure and comfort. They lounge on couches of flesh and silk, surrounded by food and drink, slaves and concubines, oblivious to the passage of time or the fate that awaits them. The punishments for the slothful are ironic, as they are forced to indulge in their vices to the point of agony and beyond. They are constantly fed and pampered, but their bodies are unable to process the sheer amount of food and drink, and they suffer from indigestion, sickness, and bloating. They are served by other damned souls who are similarly trapped in a cycle of hedonism and excess, and their fleeting moments of pleasure are always followed by intense pain and suffering. As one travels deeper into Acedia, the hills of flesh grow higher and more grotesque, and the decadence becomes more extreme. The air grows thicker with the stench of rot and decay, and the moans and cries of the damned fill the air. At the heart of Acedia lies the Palace of Sloth, a grand edifice made of ivory and gold, where the slothful ruler of this layer of Hell resides, surrounded by all manner of sensual delights and pleasures.
