By decree, Mages are required to register with the Mages Guild as a way to ‘understand’ and regulate magic within the city. This is a relatively new requirement implemented by Praetor Marcus Antonius Glaber and it somewhat controversial since the membership was voluntary in the past. The 5 gp fee is considered nominal and covers the administrative cost of maintaining the registry as well as an annual fireworks party. In terms of DaggerHeart, these individuals may be from any but wealth sure helps community.
Mages may advance in influence through the ranks by gaining renown:
- Hedge Mage - Pretty much pay your dues
- Apprentice - A few favors for an Elder or a Master and you are good.
- Initiate - Sharing a spell you crafted or competing in the Colosseum of Magic
- Elder - Good luck, these guys are a tight bunch
- Master - Secretive and unnamed.
