The first documented rift, found in the harsh environment of Antarctica. A 1km radius dome of warmth in the cold, melting the surrounding snow and ice. Discovered by explorers part of a different expedition.
It made waves within the U.S. administration as this area seemed to defy any natural laws established previously. The men who stumbled over it weren't able to get in depth data on it as it disappeared within 4 weeks of it's discovery, leaving people with more questions than answers.
