A local phenomenon has startled the locals of a small village in the Carpathian mountains, in central Romania. Reports came in as the villagers experienced an eclipse that covered the surrounding are in darkness for a few hours.
By the time secret service agents arrived on the scene the entire village was decimated. Fifty people lay dead, as a perimeter was quickly established and now the KGB are looking for competent investigators to tackle this problem and understand what happened, as well as determine if the danger has passed or not.
As the two KGB agents arrived to investigate, Katerina Kotov and Frida Koch (Isabella Bauer) met up with doctor Adam Kovács, the leading medical expert who was responsible for autopsying the bodies. Apparently the state they were in baffled the doctor. They were all desiccated to such an extreme length, it looked like they were mummies. The cause of death was also unclear, the doctor suspected organ failure as it seems that the heart, from the corpses he investigated, was damaged even in comparison to the rest.
The agents questioned the two survivors, as they reported that they saw the eclipse at around noon, before they left to try and get some local authorities. After 3 hours of walking, about half way of the trip the sky cleared and they were able to see the sun again properly. They began to panic once they were told that no one else saw the eclipse, as a patrol car was sent to the village discovering the deceased.
Venturing the next day, the agents and doctor combed through the village managing to discover a hut a bit deeper in the forest that had a weird ritual sight underneath it. A basement was dug in the earth itself. There was a man inside, cause of death unknown, who had a occult journal written by himself in Hungarian and another unidentified language alongside a cross. A large ritual symbol was covering the entirety of the floor covered in animal blood.
Due to the narrow space, the agents brought the body outside as the doctor looked over the journal, letting them know that it contained information about what ritual being attempted. A way to either summon a devil, make a deal with Satan or something along those lines. Going back to the car to fetch his tools to get some samples from the corpse, Adam left the two agents alone.
While waiting, suddenly an eclipse began and a thick fog rolled in from the surround forest. If that wasn't enough the corpse began moving, as they fought it and barely managed to escape getting injured in the process. Arriving at the car, they left in a hurry with Kovacs since they couldn't locate him. On the way back to the town, Isabella spotted a woman's silhouette in the fog by the side of the road. Even though Katerina wanted to go back, Isabella continued driving refusing to obey orders.
Lying in the report about what they saw, Kovacs caught their lies and had them restrained due to a perceived delusional paranoiac episode. While Katerina was dealing with this fine, Isabella kept having visions about being visited each night by one of the dead villagers. After a week and some more tests, the two of them were called back and hospitalized and relieved from duty for the time being at the behest of Kovacs.
Alexandra pulled some strings and managed to get all the blame pinned on Isabella, as the entire operation was covered up as best as possible by her and other groups.
