Hex-grid Legend:
| 1 hex = 60 miles |
Travel Speeds:
| Normal pace | 20 miles/day |
| Fast pace | 30 miles/day* |
| Slow pace | 10 miles/day** |
*when travelling at a fast pace characters take a -5 penalty to their passive perception scores
**when travelling at a slow pace characters are able to act stealthily
Vehicles:
| Horse | Horses and carriages do not impact travel times* but can allow characters to carry more with them while they travel and, for passive passengers, allow a chance to accomplish other tasks while travelling. *Gallop: if riding a horse with no carriage, a player can choose to push the horse for a short burst of speed. This allows for travel at twice the normal speed for one hour at a time. |
| Ships/Boats | Move at double the normal pace. |
| Flying vehicles | Move at triple the normal pace. |
Limitations:
| If characters travel for longer than 8 hours in one day they risk exhausting themselves. At the end of each additional hour of travel, players must make a constitution saving throw, taking 1 point of exhaustion on a failed save. |
| If trying to travel with items that a character would not normally be able to carry with them (i.e., something very heavy or cumbersome), they move at half-speed unless they have a wagon or carriage to lighten the load. |
| Moving through difficult terrain (e.g., steep inclines, dense forest, etc.) forces characters to travel at a slow pace without the usual benefits. |
