The party is in various states of shock after getting away from the docks. Sirona Boyd is cold and soaked, Labratfeels bad for throwing her from the pier. Irdien Talvaethis trying to hide that she is crying, but Jak o' the Wispnotices, and after handing Sirona his gleeman coat, sits down to offer her support. Adrian Maulitztries to comfort Sirona, giving her his travelling cloak too before asking the sailors for a cabin for the voyage. They have decided to present the group with the officer's place, although it's not meant to house six people, so hammocks are filling the entire space. Sirona heals Capperand asks Irdien if she is okay. She claims only to be seasick. The Captain (Francis Woodleaf comes over to present a reward for saving them before and says that he is glad that he could get us all out of there. Again Irdien and Jak ask for their share upfront. Bringing with him the cursed dagger, in his backpack hanging from his sword, Adrian escorts Sirona and Irdien down to their cabin while Jak starts interviewing the crew, asking for their life stories. He meets a lovely looking beauty called Seraphina that immediately takes a liking to him and almost demands him to serenade her during her nightshift at midnight.
After Sirona has changed her clothes, she takes the time to examine Irdien but finds nothing medically wrong with her. When she asks about her tears, it becomes plain that Irdien doesn't want to talk about it. Sirona leaves the cabin to give the drow some privacy and time to rest. Outside of the room, Adrian is waiting. He wants to know more about Morena. Sirona tells him about her domains and about one of her favourite celebrations that take place in March. She also mentions the autumn equinox that's happening tomorrow. She wants to donate something but doesn't know what. After flirting a bit, they separate, and Adrian enters the cabin to examen the cursed blade that he left in there. He talks with Irdien, who cheers up after asking Adrian straight out if he thinks she is a monster. Adrian has completely missed that she was mad at him for not excluding her from the list when Sirona ask him on the street about the changeling. They start discussing what to do about the dagger and decides that they should try and contain it by putting it in a box. While talking, Adrian asks Irdien if Sirona has confided anything to her about their relationship as he was a bit surprised by her uncharacteristic forwardness just before. Irdien tells him to talk to Sirona if he wants to know what Sirona feels. Irdien and Adrian go on a treasure hunt for a chest, first the as she Captain, and he sends them to the boatswain, who sends him to a second boatswain, but eventually they find a compartment big enough for the dagger. It's a bit of a struggle transferring the knife from the backpack to the box, but nobody gets harmed. There are green glowing runes on the long blade.
Sirona visits the Captain asking for permission to work as a crewman for the autumn equinox, which she is granted. She also asks for some strong alcohol which she gets from the ships doctor. She receives some herbs from the kitchen and Jaks herbalism kit to start concocting a specific brew that she intends for a ritual involving Jak. The two of them talked yesterday during Labrats Suprise Birthday Party about the severed connection Necromancy and Morena. Jak swore an oath to become a Necromancy of the old, arts, before the tainted corruption, and Sirona said that if Morena accepts him, she won't stand in his way. She is hoping that this ritual will give Jak a chance to state his case and hear Morena's answer. The rest of the day progresses. Labrat throws up over the railing from being seasick to the delight of the unlooking sailors, although they claim not to mean anything by it. Adrian starts teaching Capper som swordfight moves, and friendly reminds Jak that he promises to teach the boy and Labrat how to read and write. During dinner time when they eat in the mess hall, Adrian and Jak notice one of the crewmates, the boatswain, is looking at Sirona with a strange expression, as if angry or scared. Jak starts juggling some food and a dagger to display his dislike for the mans narrowing eyes. When the crewman leaves the mess hall, Adrian trails him to try and find out what's going on. He finds the crewmembers personal belongings, but there is nothing in them except a statue of the god of water, some pain killer ointment, clothes and tools.
Since Sirona is expected to rise early in the morning, she decides to go to bed early. Jak volunteers to escort her to their cabin and on the way, ask for his book back. Sirona gets concerned and asks if he has changed his mind about becoming a Unknown of Morena, but he assures her that he has not. She says that Irdien has the book, but if Irdien agrees to give it to him she won't stop him. Jak gallops back to Irdien in the mess hall and asks her for the book, explaining that Sirona has permitted him to read it. Irdien returns with him to their room and hands over the book. Jak sits down immediately and starts reading. Sirona tells him that she has planed a ritual for them tomorrow. As midnight approaches, Jak makes his way to the mast where Seraphin had told him to met her. She has prepared them a pink-nick, but he declines her advances very politely, sings her song and then bows out, to her disappointment. In the morning, at dawn, Sirona is fetched to start her workday. Adrian takes a second when the others are still sleeping and tries to use Arlissas old wand to light a lantern. It does not succeed. While Sirona works and Jak teaches Capper and Labrat between doing his own research, Adrian and Irdien discuss the crewman that is still very plainly avoiding Sirona at all cost. Adrian's working theory is that the crewman is still possessed by the demon they fought, or that he is responsible for the crew getting taken in the first place, and that he is now scared that Sirona will be able to notice something if he is to close. Irdien says that it's a theory, but that he needs evidence.
When Sirona's shift is over and the brew she started yesterday is done, she finds Jak in their room, still engrossed in the Necromancer literature. She asks him to join her in the ritual which he immediately stands up to do. She guides him through it and gives him the brew to drink. They sit down, and Jak starts hearing strange noises and when he blinks he has suddenly transferred from their cabin and into the Captain's quarter where a hooded female figure is sitting behind the desk, placing out taro cards. Morena asks him to sit. She scolds him for eating the pie offered to her by Sirona at her temple, and she expresses her even bigger grievance with him stabbing Sirona during his quests for The Lich King. As they talk, Morena flips the cards before him. [I'm sorry I don't remember the cards] She tells him that if he is to become a Death priest, he needs to prove himself to her and atone. She tells him that he needs to listen to her grand daughter's judgment, and reject any gifts, old or new, given to him from the Lich King. Jak hands over all the books he has collected and the wand he got from the killed necromancer at the old abandoned brewery. Morena takes the rod but lets him keep the books for educational value. Back in the cabin with his body Sirona watches over him. As he starts snoring, she lifts him from the floor and places him in his hammock, before going to bed too. As Adrian wakes early the next morning, he once again tries to lit a lantern with the wand, and to his immense surprise, it works. At the same moment of this miracle that he has been longing after for the last two year's Sirona screams herself and everyone around her awake. (The third day of the voyage is uneventful.)
The next night Sirona has another bad dream. As she wakes up together with the others around midnight, something is wrong with the ship. It's quiet; there is no sound of wind or waves. Jak tries sensing if his scares are acting up. They are hurting, and he tells the group to arm themselves. The group gets up on deck to din the ship dead in the water. The crew is trying to figure out what to do. Jak tells the Captain that they need to prepare for a fight. As they talk a green light breaks through the thick fog around them and the outline of a ship is approaching. It signals that it just wants to talk. When close enough, the voice of a man starts speaking, saying that they have a package for Jak. Irdien grabs Jak and hides with him, making sure he can't storm out. Adrian takes the cone the Captain uses to amplify his voice and tries to convince the newcomers that Jak isn't abord. After some discussion, the man, that introduces himself as Ulrich Stenzel delivers the package without getting to see Jak. He brings over a coffin and lifts the lid to reveal a beautiful half-elven woman with a broken neck. Sirona moves up and inspects the body. She is dead, but not yet stiff. The Vampier leaves The Mariner and releases the ship from the spell that kept her held in place. The woman in the coffin is Alessandré, Jak's murdered love.
