Mnsobek
The Mnsobeks almost exclusively reside in the area they call the Cradle of Life - the delta of the Gagular River at the Edge of the world. They are theoretically vessels of the Edge Empire but are wisely left to their own devices, as the peaceful people have little valued resources but will pose a willful resistance to the Empire.
Even so, they are inherently peaceful people, living off the land and the nature around them, and manage to maintain some separation from the political sphere of the world around them and a modicum of their genuine indigenous innocence.
The Mnsobek rarely refer to themselves by this name, as it has deeply religious meaning, and often simply refer to themselves by their family, tribe or settlement name, or just as People.
They are tall, athletic, and often olive-skinned, though some other skin tones exist in various tones from leafy green to golden. They tend to have smooth, symmetrical, and appealing facial features, both feminine and masculine.
The Mnsobek are mostly pleased to live simple lives as hunters, farmers, fishers, and gatherers living in small villages and settlements scattered across the huge river delta that spills its waters to the Fall into uncaring skies. They believe this land is sacred and most have no interest in leaving it and would die to protect it.
The Mnsobek believe they are the forefathers of all races across the world, and that they have climbed from the under-skies into the Cradle of Life in which they currently reside, and from there, the world began.
The Mnsobek believe that life is never easy or simple and it is filled with suffering and tragedy, to which we all, eventually, succumb and die. Thus, they strive to mitigate this suffering caused by the struggle - life - by embracing it as an inevitability and accepting death and failure as part of it, while celebrating every moment with joyful jubilance while they can.
As Mnsobeks reach young adulthood or late teens they must perform a rite or an act that signifies their ascension into adulthood. Many of the young show their strength by climbing down along the rock face to the underbelly of the world and collecting dark rocks from known cave systems below. Not all who attempt this rite return, and thus others choose different rites, an impressive hunt, a spiritual feat, or some other revered accomplishment.
Mnsobek Names
Traditional Mnsobek names consist of a birth name, a rite name, and a tribe name. Birth name is given by the tribe and parents when a child is born, the rite name is given to an adult passing the rite of ascension, usually to refer to their deed or character in some way.
