Diovani
The Diovani of the Fertile Viel are a proud and passionate people. They have had their own aspirations of grandeur, but have been conquered and assimilated into the Empire generations ago. Today, while maintaining a local identity, most consider themselves an integral part of the Empire, and some have managed to amass status and riches within it.
These stout people often have deep connections to the lands they work. Most live in settlements centered around farming, and the cycles of seeding and harvest play a significant role in their culture.
Normally standing at a little under 5’6 feet tall, they are inclined to be stout, weighing between 150 to 200 pounds. Diovani’s skin ranges from pale to tan with olive tones, and their hair is usually in tones of brown and often wavy, though it ranges from blonde to jet black. They most often have hazel eyes.
Men tend to be groomed and often sport sophisticated facial hair. They like to wear practical clothes appropriate to the task at hand. However, when the task at hand is a social gathering, for example, appropriate would mean as beautiful, intricate, sophisticated and fashion-forward as possible. While Diovani women share similar sensibilities as the men, they have more of a social leeway to lean towards the practical if they choose, and are normally less judged by society for doing so. Or as the Diovani saying goes “better a woman bare than a man overbearing” - which is to say, better a woman in the simplest of clothes than a man groomed through the teeth.
The Diovani are expressive, passionate, and romantic people, prone to grand gestures, heated lovers’ quarls, and what others may consider overly dramatic social interactions. Their culture is filled with stories of romance and passion as powerful forces shaping humanity.
Diovani are very concerned both with basic needs and simple pleasures, such as passion, food, and friendly interactions, as much as they are with more sophisticated pleasures in life, beauty, faith, or love, and they would indulge in either whenever the chance presents itself. They tend to enjoy displaying their success in the form of material possessions, various art and baubles, and the like, and their cultural appreciation of beauty has developed some of the world's most revered artists, artisans, sculptures, and painters.
