Redwood's Cleave

Description and Atmosphere:

Redwood's Cleave (or simply Cleave) thrives on a bustling timber industry. Once a towering redwood forest, the area around town now boasts extensive fields of stumps, remnants of the resource that fuels this utilitarian outpost. Timber barges, groaning under their loads, navigate the slow river upstream. Skilled loggers and barge operators, alongside Hadeeb slaves, guide the precious cargo. They form the vital link between Cleave and the distant Edge Capital, supplying the timber that builds grand structures and essential tools. Despite its economic contribution, Cleave remains a practical town, its streets dusty and its taverns offering basic comfort to its hardworking residents.

Society and Culture:

Population:

900 Citizens | 300 Hadeeb slaves

90% Sajani, 10% various others | mostly traveling slaves from the Capital

Governance:

From a massive manor house overlooking the town, Cleave is governed by Ezarin "Long Shadow" Arushik, who is the Governor of this settlement. He is of minor Sajani nobility and has been ruling Cleave firmly since his father died. The Arushik family has been ruling Cleave for centuries, and they are very loyal to Edge Capital and the Everlasting Flame.

Culture:

Mostly a Sajani-based culture, though rough around the edges, as the settlement has existed for many years. It took in some MnSobek beliefs and connections with the surrounding lands and a more rustic frontier hardness.

History and Significance:

Significance & Economy:

Cleave is an integral part of Edge Capital's timber supply. Cleave relies on timber to survive. It uses slave labor, mostly supplied by the capital, to keep up with the demands. Whenever the capital requires more produce that it can provide, additional slaves are sent from the capital (though such action does hurt Cleave's bottom line).

While redwood imports also come from Ferry up the stream, the woods so deep within the Redwood are hardier, heavier, and far more valuable than those found on the outskirts of the woods in Ferry.

Conflicts:

None.

History:

Cleave has existed for at least two centuries and has always been governed by the Arushik family throughout.
