Also known as the Cradle of Life, or simply the Wetlands, the Gagular Delta is home to the Mnsobek people. It is a wondrous and perilous expanse teeming with life. Scattered throughout this vast delta are villages and farmsteads, showcasing indigenous constructions such as small wooden cabins built on stilts, illuminated solely by jars filled with light bugs.
At the heart of Mnsobek life is their mastery of the water, with tridents serving as essential tools for river fishing. On-water farming sustains the communities, while occasional hunting and trade add diversity to their livelihoods. Larger villages like Hiver and Hudar boast more modern housing, constructed from wood and stone, featuring doors and other amenities that reflect increased prosperity and trade connections.
The Mnsobek people, particularly those at Sha’ah, have a unique and intricate relationship with the nature around them. For example, they domesticated Zocouses, and the beasts serve as guardians, hunting companions, and occasional mounts. Once they reach a certain size, to control the demanding upkeep in meat for feed, they are often slaughtered. This process yields not only meat but also valuable material: tough skin for various purposes and delicate belly skin sought after for crafting elegant and prestigious garments. Among the Edge nobility, the possession of such garments made by Mnsobek from Zocous hides is a symbol of status and pride. The Gagular Delta thus weaves together a complex tapestry of life, where the Mnsobek people harmonize with the rich resources of their unique environment.
