House Malthas is an upstart house that recently clawed its way onto the Council of Nine by promising the Everlasting Flame something the Empire desperately needs: Instantaneous Command.

Prominent Figures and Affiliations

• Lady Malthas (Matriarch): A woman obsessed with "The Grid." She views information as the only true currency and is currently bankrupting her house to build the first relay chain to Blossom.
• Caspian Malthas (The Architect): Elara’s nephew, a brilliant but twitchy Technomancer who designed the tuning forks. He is increasingly paranoid because he’s noticed that the forks are starting to vibrate before a message is sent.

Place among the Nine

Still a minor house among the nine, but with this promising new technology, they aspire to rise high.

Claim to Power

• The "Vocal-Resonance" Relay uses Fey-Glass Tuning Forks housed in brass "Echo-Towers." A message is spoken into a mouthpiece, amplified by a chemical catalyst, and "thrown" to the next tower. Currently, this only works across Edge Capital (from the Palace to the Star Chamber) and a single experimental line reaching toward Fortgate. Currently, these towers must be placed every few hundred yards. They require "Vocalists", low-caste workers with high-pitch voices, to sit in the towers and manually repeat/boost the signals. It’s expensive, physically exhausting, and prone to human.
  Also, sometimes a tower receives a message that wasn't sent from the previous tower. These "phantom signals" remain, as of now, an unexplained mystery and are simply ignored.
