Ogre

Humanoid, Giant

Physical Description:

Ogres stand tall and broad, towering over most other humanoid races, reaching heights of 8 to 10 feet tall. They possess thick, muscular bodies, with immense strength and endurance. Their skin varies in shades of earthy tones, with rough, coarse textures. Notable features include large, snarling jaws and brutish facial features. Their size, strength, and intimidating appearance make them an imposing sight.

History:

The history of the Ogres is steeped in a nomadic lifestyle, traversing lands and often staying on the move. While they have a vague origin traced to the same ancestral roots as the Giants, Ogres are known to be smaller in stature but equally formidable. Their history is more a tale of wandering tribes, living off the land, and leaving minimal traces in the annals of history. They've seldom left behind concrete legacies, opting instead for a life of continuous movement and adaptation.

Society:

Ogres typically live solitary lives or within small tribes. These tribes can be rather dangerous to other races as they often prioritize raiding and accumulating wealth, driven by their insatiable appetite and desire for power. However, there are exceptions, as some Ogres have assimilated into civilized society, finding a place as skilled tradesmen, chefs, or even mercenaries. They have a fondness for song, revelry, and hearty feasting, seeing these as integral parts of their culture.

  • Ogre Mercenaries: Ogres are highly sought-after as mercenaries due to their immense strength, resilience, and ferocity in battle. They adapt quickly to the fighting styles and tactics of the regions they're employed in, though they retain their brutish ways. Their loyalty hinges on their reputation as formidable fighters and the promise of regular meals. While they might not grasp the subtleties of social customs, their presence alone is often enough to deter adversaries.
  • Ogre Butchers: Some Ogres are drawn to the trade of butchery, utilizing their strength to carve through meat effortlessly. Their voracious appetite is well-suited to the task, and they relish the opportunity to work with food. However, they might not adhere to the meticulous standards of hygiene as other races do, often preferring to consume the choicest cuts themselves.
  • Ogre Cooks: Ogres have an unparalleled passion for cooking, enjoying both the preparation and indulgence in hearty meals. Their immense size allows them to handle large quantities of ingredients and they excel at creating dishes meant to satisfy even the heartiest appetites. While their culinary creations might be unrefined, they are well-known for their flavorsome and hearty meals, particularly beloved among adventurers and those with similar appetites.
  • Ogre Bouncers: Due to their imposing stature and natural resilience, Ogres make excellent bouncers at taverns or establishments. Their mere presence tends to dissuade troublemakers, and those foolish enough to cause chaos are dealt with swiftly. They are not subtle negotiators but rely on intimidation to maintain order. Protecting their employer's premises earns them the security of regular meals and, occasionally, a friendly scrap with unruly patrons.

Ogre's Ideal Life:

For an Ogre, the ideal life consists of a cycle of constant fighting and eating. They revel in battle and are known to devour their hard-earned victories, often literally. Their reputation as both warriors and prodigious eaters is of utmost importance. While they might dismiss or even laugh off certain taunts, insults about their fighting skills or eating prowess are taken seriously, as these form the cornerstone of their reputation, leading to more work and therefore more meat—a cycle they relish.

Ogre names often reflect their brutish nature and the power they hold. Names might include Grunk, Thudruk, Grokkor, or similar monikers that evoke strength and resilience.
