Accursed Longbow

Longbow (Requires attunement)

The Accursed Longbow appears old and mundane at first glance, but this deceptive appearance belies its sinister nature. When equipped, the bow begins to give off a soft red glow as it attunes to its new owner automatically. Upon completion of a short rest, the bow becomes fully attuned, turning a dark crimson red. This transformation is accompanied by whispers in a distorted voice, tempting the wielder to cause harm whenever tensions rise.

Due to its dangerous and cursed nature, the Accursed Longbow is valued at approximately 10,000 gold pieces. Its abilities make it a powerful weapon, but the risks associated with its use often deter potential buyers.

Forged in ancient times by a malevolent archer who sought power at any cost, the Accursed Longbow has passed through the hands of many unfortunate souls. Each wielder has been drawn into its cycle of violence and suffering, unable to relinquish the bow without powerful magical intervention. Legends tell of entire villages reduced to ash by the bow's wicked power.

Attunement:

The Accursed Longbow attunes automatically if equipped for 1 minute, during which it whispers temptations to the wielder. The wielder must endure the bow's sinister influence and its ongoing toll on their health.

Special Features:

  • Enhanced Archery: You have a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon.
  • Necrotic Feedback: If your arrow fails to hit its target, you suffer 1d4 necrotic damage.
  • Cursed Bond: This bow cannot be relinquished willingly and must be removed using the remove curse spell.
  • Ashen Demise: When you slay a creature with this bow, the creature must make a Constitution saving throw (DC 15) or begin to wither into smoke and ash, leaving only a pile of ash behind shortly after.
  • Crippling Whispers: Each time you take a short rest, you must make a DC 14 Constitution saving throw. On a failure, the bow's malevolent influence causes you to feel weakened, and your skin begins to wither. If you fail this saving throw twice in a row, you gain one level of exhaustion for each additional failure. Any long rest during which you fail this save cannot remove any levels of exhaustion.
