Gorrekoth's Nightmare is an abyssal spear forged in the depths of the Abyss by the nightmare fiend Gorrekoth. Attunement:

To attune to Gorrekoth's Nightmare, a creature must spend a short rest focusing on the spear, experiencing the visions of Gorrekoth's nightmares. The attunement process binds the wielder to the dark essence within the spear.

Curse:

Gorrekoth's Nightmare is cursed, and becoming attuned to it extends the curse to you. As long as you remain cursed, you cannot voluntarily end your attunement to the spear. Removing the curse requires a remove curse spell or similar magic, but ending the attunement in this way does not remove the haunting visions.

Special Abilities:

  • Abyssal Strikes: Gorrekoth's Nightmare grants a +3 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon.
  • Terror Strike: When you hit a creature with Gorrekoth's Nightmare, the target must succeed on a DC 17 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened of you until the end of your next turn.
  • Soul Drainer: When you score a critical hit with Gorrekoth's Nightmare, the target takes an additional 4d6 psychic damage, and you gain temporary hit points equal to the psychic damage dealt.
  • Nightmare Visions: While attuned to this weapon, the wielder experiences haunting visions of Gorrekoth's nightmares. These visions cause the wielder to suffer from a form of madness. Roll on the Short-Term Madness table (DMG p. 258) whenever the wielder finishes a long rest.
  • Fear Aura: While attuned to this weapon, you can use an action to emit an aura of fear. Each creature of your choice within 30 feet of you must succeed on a DC 17 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened for 1 minute. A frightened creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. This feature can be used once per long rest.
