The Plaguebearer

Dagger (Requires attunement)

The Plaguebearer is a legendary dagger with a dark and infamous history. Its blade, wrought with ominous symbols, bears the weight of a curse that whispers of betrayal and death. The hilt, adorned with tarnished silver, exudes an unsettling aura, hinting at the malevolent power it harbors.

As a legendary weapon steeped in dark legend, the Plaguebearer holds immeasurable value to collectors and those who seek to wield its cursed power. Its market value is beyond estimation, as it is often considered priceless due to its historical significance and supernatural properties.

The Plaguebearer is believed to be the weapon responsible for the demise of King Eamon Rivers, the last monarch of Rivermond. Legends speak of the dagger's role in orchestrating the king's assassination, casting a shadow of suspicion and fear over its dark history. Tales of its cursed nature and malevolent influence have woven a web of intrigue and dread around the legendary blade.

Attunement: The wielder must fully embrace the dark nature of the curse, acknowledging and accepting the consequences that come with wielding the Plaguebearer dagger. This acceptance solidifies the attunement, allowing the wielder to tap into the weapon's powers but also binding them to the curse.

Once attuned, the wielder gains access to the Plaguebearer's special abilities but also becomes subject to its curse. Breaking the attunement requires a wish spell or a specific ritual that needs the blessing of an angel to sever the connection between the wielder and the cursed weapon.

Curse:

The curse casts a shadow over the wielder, making them less trustworthy and imposing. They suffer disadvantage on Charisma-based ability checks when interacting with individuals who are aware of the dagger's cursed nature. Additionally, the dagger emits a faint aura of malevolence, making it difficult to conceal or hide from magical detection.

Special Abilities:

  • Plague's Touch: The Plaguebearer's blade is tainted with a potent poison. On a successful hit, the target must make a Constitution saving throw DC 15 or suffer an additional 1d12 poison damage. The target takes half damage on a successful save.
  • Cursed Wound: When the Plaguebearer strikes a creature, the wound inflicted by the dagger resists healing magic. Any magical healing or restoration spells cast on a creature wounded by the Plaguebearer are reduced by half their normal effectiveness (rounded down). This curse persists until the wounded creature completes a long rest. The target becomes more susceptible to diseases and ailments during this period. They have disadvantage on Constitution saving throws against diseases and suffers a -2 penalty to their Constitution score.
  • Aura of Dread: The Plaguebearer emits an aura of dark and foreboding energy. When the dagger is drawn or revealed, nearby creatures can sense its malevolence. Within a 30-foot radius, non-hostile creatures have disadvantage on saving throws against fear effects, and they may feel uneasy or fearful in the presence of the cursed weapon.
  • Death's Embrace: The Plaguebearer carries a curse that lingers on its blade. Whenever a creature is killed by this dagger, their life essence is momentarily trapped within the weapon. As an action, the wielder can release this trapped essence, gaining temporary hit points equal to the damage dealt by the killing blow.
