Troll Witch's Grimoire

Spell Book

The Troll Witch's Grimoire is a weathered spellbook that appears to have been subjected to the ravages of the swamp and time itself. Filled with cryptic runes, dark rituals, and knowledge gleaned from the heart of the treacherous swamp, this tome holds spells known only to the elusive Swamp Troll Witches.

While attuned to the Troll Witch's Grimoire, a spellcaster can spend 1 hour in meditation to learn the secrets of the swamp. At the end of this hour, the spellcaster may select a single Swamp Witch spell from the following options:

  • Mirestep: A 1st-level spell that allows the caster to traverse difficult swamp terrain with ease.
The caster can move through waterlogged areas, dense foliage, and hidden sinkholes without difficulty. Additionally, they become adept at avoiding any potential natural hazards that might be present in the swamp.

While within the swamp environment, the caster is also granted a significant advantage in remaining stealthy and unnoticed. They gain a +5 bonus to any Dexterity (Stealth) checks they make.

  • Swamp Serpent's Grasp: A 2nd-level spell that ensnares an enemy in the vise-like grip of a spectral swamp serpent.
The target must make a Strength saving throw or become grappled by the spectral serpent. A grappled creature's speed is reduced to 0, and they can't benefit from any bonus to their speed. They are also restrained as the serpent constricts them. The target can attempt another Strength saving throw at the end of their turn to break free. On a successful save, the spectral serpent dissipates.

The serpent's constriction deals damage to the target at the beginning of each of the caster's turns. The target takes 4d6 bludgeoning damage as long as they remain grappled by the serpent.

  • Curse of the Murk: A 3rd-level spell that blankets a 20 ft area in an oppressive shroud of darkness and eerie sounds, causing fear and disorientation among creatures inside.
Any creatures inside this area, including the caster's allies, must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, they become frightened and disoriented. They can repeat the Wisdom saving throw at the end of each of their turns, ending the frightened condition on a successful save.

The curse fills the area with eerie, unsettling sounds, making concentration difficult. Any creature trying to maintain concentration on a spell within the area has disadvantage on their Constitution saving throws.

Once selected, the spellcaster can cast this spell as a ritual without expending a spell slot. The Troll Witch's Grimoire retains its knowledge of the chosen spell, allowing the spellcaster to access it whenever they need to prepare spells. However, a spellcaster can only learn one Swamp Witch spell from this grimoire at a time.

Additionally the Grimoire holds four poems written in a crude giant language.

"Serpent's Embrace"

Amidst the reeds and waters deep,

Where serpents coil and secrets keep,

The witch's power, dark and steep,

In serpentine dreams, she'll slowly seep.

In scales and hisses, they'll entwine,

The ancient bond, a tale divine,

With fangs of poison and eyes that shine,

They'll guard the witch's hidden shrine.

"Whispers of the Marsh"

In the murky depths where secrets lie,

Beneath the moon's reflective eye,

The marshland's heart, a whispered sigh,

Where hidden magic and spirits vie.

Bog and mire, where shadows play,

In twilight's dance, they sway,

To the Witch's call, they never betray,

For in the swamp, they'll always stay.

 "Mists of Enchantment"

When night descends and fog rolls in,

The swamp becomes a shroud, a sin,

But through the mists, the Witch will spin,

Her spells and charms, a battle to win.

In the veiled embrace of the eerie fog,

She calls upon the spirits, the ancient dog,

To weave enchantments through the bog,

A sorceress dancing in a spectral clog.

"The Heart of the Marsh"

In the heart of the marsh, where secrets sleep,

The Witch's Grimoire, her promises to keep,

A trove of wisdom, dark and deep,

For those who dare to delve in the mystic leap.

With herbs and roots, and spells that bind,

Her power flows through every line,

In the Grimoire's pages, truth they'll find,

A Troll Witch's legacy, for all of time.
