Necromantic Longcoat

Leather Armor

The Necromantic Longcoat is a dark and gothic garment designed by a novice necromancer. The coat’s appearance, with its somber black fabric and eerie design, makes it fitting attire for practitioners of the dark arts or those who deal with undeath. Despite its creator's inexperience, the longcoat provides significant benefits, though with a touch of unpredictability.

It typically sells for 1,500 to 3,000 gold pieces. Its value is influenced by the buyer's affinity for necromancy and the allure of its unique summoning ability, despite its faulty nature.

Crafted by a novice necromancer eager to harness the power of undeath, the Necromantic Longcoat embodies the aspirations and pitfalls of early magical experimentation. Tales of its use often include moments of both triumph and frustration as skeletons either rise to serve or fail to assemble properly from their scattered bones. Despite its imperfections, the coat has gained a niche following among necromancers and dark sorcerers for its utility and macabre style.

Special Features:

  • Armored Protection: The longcoat grants a +1 bonus to AC, functioning as light armor.
  • Skeleton Summon (Faulty): Once per short rest, the wearer can use an action to attempt to summon a skeleton at a point within 20 feet that they can see. Roll a 1d4 when casting this ability:
    • On a roll of 4, a skeleton is successfully summoned.
    • On a roll of 1-3, only a pile of bones appears on the ground.

The skeleton follows the rules for the spell Animate Dead but does not require any material components. The summoned skeleton remains until it drops to 0 hit points or until the end of your next short rest. It acts immediately after your turn in the initiative order, obeying your verbal commands (no action required by you). If no commands are given, it takes the Dodge action and moves to avoid danger.
