The Wand of Warding is an ornate magical device designed in the form of a mace, with a clear crystal embedded within its hollow head. While it can function as a blunt weapon, its primary purpose is to place a powerful protective ward on objects such as doors, windows, or chests. The ward prevents both material and magical tampering, and any attempt to interact with the warded object causes the crystal to glow red. The ward is extraordinarily resilient, immune to dispelling attempts, and is equivalent to a level 9 enchantment.
The Wand of Warding is valued at 5,000 gold pieces due to its high-level enchantment and practical applications in safeguarding valuable or sensitive items.
This wand was once the prized possession of a devout priest who served at Northgate Prison, a dungeon known for housing dangerous criminals. The priest used the wand to maintain the protective ward at the entrance of the prison, ensuring that no one could enter or exit without proper authorization. Eventually it was stolen by an unknown party.
Attunement
- Requires attunement by a spellcaster.
Special Abilities
- Blunt Weapon: The wand can be used as a mace in melee combat.
- Ward Placement: The wand can place a powerful magical ward on an object (such as a door, window, or chest) once per day. The ward is a level 9 enchantment and prevents any material or magical tampering. The ward lasts until it is dispelled by the wand's user or the object is destroyed. The ward placed by the wand is immune to all dispelling attempts and can only be removed by the wand's user or through the destruction of the warded object. The Knock spell can still suppress it but will be noticed as tempering and a Wish spell can remove the ward completely.
- Alert System: If any interaction with the warded object occurs, the crystal within the wand glows red, alerting the user to the attempted tampering.
