Thornstar

Morningstar (Requires Attunement)

Thornstar is a formidable morningstar forged from blackened iron, its heavy head adorned with menacing thorn motifs. The weapon is cold to the touch, exuding an aura of power. The handle is wrapped in dark leather, providing a firm grip for those strong enough to wield it.

Due to its legendary status, powerful enchantments, and rich history, Thornstar is a highly coveted artifact among treasure hunters and collectors.

Thornstar is the ancestral heirloom of the Redmond family, a once-great house that met its demise in the Third Age. Thornstar was imbued with the essence of destruction and authority. The weapon served the Redmond family faithfully for generations, its brutal power a symbol of their might and dominance. When the family went extinct, Thornstar was lost, and for centuries, it has been the subject of countless quests and legends. Many believe that whoever wields Thornstar can harness the destructive power that led to the downfall of the Redmonds, making it a prized artifact for those who seek power and renown.

Attunement:

Thornstar can only be attuned to a creature who has demonstrated their strength and willingness to wield such a weapon of destruction. This often requires proving oneself in combat or through acts of might.

Special Features:

  • Enhanced Strikes: Thornstar grants a +3 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this weapon.
  • Thorned Impact: On a hit, Thornstar deals an additional 2d6 slashing damage as the thorns tear through flesh and spirit.
  • Weight of Despair: As a bonus action, the wielder can cause the weapon to emit an aura of dread. All creatures within a 20-foot radius must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened for 1 minute. Frightened creatures can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of their turns, ending the effect on themselves on a success. This ability can be used once per short or long rest.
