An experimental enchantment gone slightly sideways, the Boomeraxe was created by a well-meaning but absent-minded halfling artificer named Nona Whitlock. Intended to mimic the legendary returning weapons of great warriors, Nonai’s version was cheaper, sloppier, and notably less reliable.
The enchantment works—mostly. The axe always comes back… eventually. However, it might return too late, fly past you, or land in the hands of someone else entirely. The Boomeraxe has since found its way into the odd corners of magical curiosity shops, passed around by adventurers who both love and loathe it. Not considered a quality item in traditional blacksmiths or arms dealers, but collectors of strange magic or shops like Fredrik's Ebon Vault might sell it with flair.
Special Abilities:
- Fine Creation: You have a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon.
- Returning (Flawed): When thrown, the Boomeraxe returns to you—but not immediately. Roll 1d4 at the start of each of your turns. On a result of 1, the axe returns to your hand at the end of your turn. Until then, it is considered unavailable (stuck in a tree, lodged in a wall, or mid-air somewhere on the way back).
- Whoops: When the axe returns, roll a d20. On a 1, it returns to the wrong person nearby. Choose another creature within 10 feet randomly. That creature catches or is struck by the axe instead. (DM’s discretion: DEX save to catch it or take 1d6 bludgeoning damage from the hilt).
- Limitations: The axe cannot return if thrown into a magically sealed area or if obstructed by extradimensional spaces (DM’s discretion).
